Ryouta is very natural with himself, open, friendly, and has good flow when holding conversations-- Most of the time. He's a good sport, always encouraging others who he feels have the need of it. Since it's just personality being talked about, he's actually pretty insecure of himself, though he can hide it well and gives such support. He always wants to put others before himself ( Except in swimming competitions, of course. ). He knows how to manage his time well, and is actually very organized. He's also somewhat a glutton, with his metabolism being very fast.
He knows his strengths and weaknesses in sport like the back of his hand, always wanting to overcome his challenges, even though he has an unconscious thought that he can't do it. He's not so easily motivated though when he's comforted when he ends up making mistakes that affect other people. He easily misunderstands situations when he doesn't think them through. When his friends are a priority to him, he can read them like a book if he's quiet and obervant.
When he's alone, he likes to think or train. He's focused and always wants to be the best like no one ever wasssss. Well, at least best enough to beat his eternal rival, Haruto. He's not the type to give up, always determined, always chilvarous, always brave to try new things and prove to people that even though he's young, he can do amazing things.
Ryouta was born in Aragusuku-Jima, an island in Japan known for it's beaches and sandy shore. His mother was foreign, while his father was a local islander, best friends with the father of Matsuda Haruto, the son of a famous surfer known in Japan. The early years of their lives, Haru was like a big brother he never had. Also the only one he wanted to compete with. Haru taught him the things his own dad taught him. Surfing, swimming, diving. They did it together and it was fun. They ended up as best friends and eternal rivals from their many contests they'd have and join together. Sadly, he'd always end up second. Haru was always first. It didn't break him, it made him want to do so much better.
Well, until he had to move away in Middle School. His father had a new job at Osaka and he had to part ways with Haruto. They promised to still keep in touch while he was away. Sadly he didn't get to see the beaches he loved anymore. It made him lose slight interest in surfing and diving due to that. He instead followed his heart to swimming, knowing there was a swimming complex around. He'd practice a lot while juggling his studies and after school activites, which was, of course, his school's swimming club. He felt a connection with him and the water, just like how Haruto would tell him about the mermaids and the adventures that his grandfather had. Haruto gave him a small trinket of luck. A wristband he told him, that had magical powers because they came from the ocean itself and it was blessed with mermaid magic. Of course Ryouta would never believe that, after all he saw Haruto buy it with his dad as a good bye present, but the thought that he was given a token of luck made him determined to equal Haru and beat him in swimming at least.
In his own time, he won interschool competitions being a swimmer, always excited to tell his best friend about his wins, and always felt encouraged when he was given praise from Haruto. He felt so close to beating Haruto, and when they did see each other again, the first thing he demanded was a contest. Sadly, he lost still. Haruto just gave him a pat on the back and told him that they were already equal in swimming. He felt happy when he said that, but he wanted to do more. He wanted to really beat him fair and square. His parents saw his determination and thought about it for a while. They asked him then if he wanted to move schools to a more elite school, where swimming was specialized. He was glad his parents would support him on his interest to keep swimming because of how much they loved him. Ryouta was enrolled in the academy, hoping to become a better swimmer, athlete, and person to others and himself.
Haruto is not only his friend, but his role model in character.
He absolutely loves sea creatures.
He always wears the wristband in every competition he has.
He keeps a picture of himself as a kid in Aragusuku-Jima in his wallet.
He loves to study about Marine Biology, seeing one of his dreams is to be a Marine Biologist.
His best subjects in his academics is Math and Science, worst being Language.
He tends to hug people a lot when he feels close to them.
